What is Laminated Dental Veneer (Leaf Porcelain)?

Laminated teeth are mostly a form of restoration made to individuals who are not satisfied with their anterior teeth. Even if its correct name is Laminate Veneer, its translated into Turkish is leaf porcelain. The reason why it is called leaf porcelain really comes from the fact that it is made very thin and adhered only to the front surface of the teeth.

This technique can be used with different materials in all regions where aesthetics is important. However, the most widely used material is porcelain laminates, also known as e-max. E-max laminates are materials that have been used in dentistry for many years and have proven themselves as a material closest to nature and with high light transmittance.

While making laminated teeth, it can sometimes be done without any abrasion from the teeth, and in some cases, 0.3-0.6 mm abrasions are made only from the visible front surface of the tooth. This situation is about 0.9-2 mm over the 5 axis of the tooth in other veneer teeth.

Izmir,Cigli,Across What is Laminated Tooth Veneer?

How is Laminated Tooth Veneer Made?

Since porcelain laminate dental veneers are generally made in cases where aesthetic expectations are high, it is possible to demonstrate the finished treatment for our patients who want to have laminated teeth. For this reason, it is recommended to perform this procedure after the inspection process.

Laminated leaf porcelain tooth preparations are started under local anesthesia and, just like in other prosthetic dental treatment plans, measurements are taken by digital or analog means and temporary teeth are adhered to the patient's mouth before being sent to the laboratory.

In some cases, there is no need for temporary teeth since no tooth erosion is done. After the laboratory stages progress step by step, it is presented to the patients and within 5-7 days, the laminated leaf porcelains are ready for the use of the patients.

In Which Situations Is Laminated Tooth Veneer Applied?

The main reasons why patients who want to have laminated teeth apply to us dentists;

  • Individuals with crooked teeth and a shift in the smile line

  • Individuals with a level difference between teeth

  • Individuals with discolored fillings in anterior teeth

  • Individuals with interdental space (Diastema)

  • People who have experienced discoloration of teeth

  • People who are disturbed by this condition due to fractures in the teeth over time or fractures due to trauma

  • They can be listed as individuals who are not satisfied with their tooth color despite teeth whitening.

In Which Situations Is Laminated Tooth Veneer Applied?

To Whom Laminated Teeth Are Not Applied?

  • Laminated leaf porcelain teeth should not be made for any individual who has not completed their growth development. 18-19 years for men and 17-18 years for women should be expected.

  • Laminate tooth veneer should not be applied in jaw tooth structures where there is too much crowding, rotation and curvature. Instead, full ceramic restorations, which we refer to as zirconium dental veneers or e-max veneers, should be preferred.

  • Laminated teeth adhere well to the enamel layer of the tooth and show adhesion, so it may not be very suitable to make laminated teeth for individuals with tooth enamel deprivation such as fluorosis.

  • Even if laminated teeth do not pose a serious obstacle to individuals whose enamel layer is very worn due to clenching problem, it should be done carefully and possible risks should be mentioned. In such cases, if the patient wants to have laminated teeth, night protective plaque and botox should be applied.

  • It will not be very accurate to make laminated leaf porcelain teeth for individuals with advanced gingival problems and the result will be unsuccessful.

  • It is not recommended to make laminated teeth for individuals with pen, sewing needle and nail biting habits.

  • It is not correct to apply laminated leaf porcelain to loose teeth that have lost their bone support.

Laminated Dental Veneers Advantages and Disadvantages

What are the Advantages of Laminated Dental Veneers?

Laminated tooth veneer is the name of a technique as mentioned in our previous article. The most used material when making laminated teeth is full ceramic, e-max material, which is described as full ceramic. E-max material is the most aesthetic material used in dentistry.

The fact that there is almost no tooth abrasion in laminated tooth veneers increases the desire of people to have laminated teeth.

E-max porcelain laminates never show color change after being applied to patients.

Although they appear as thin sheets, they are highly resistant to breakage when adhered with special adhesive adhesives.

Since the loss of hard tissue in the teeth is at a minimum level, the development of sensitivity in the teeth after the bonding process occurs very little.

Since there is no abrasion on the chewing surfaces and back surfaces of the teeth, the adaptation of patients to porcelain e-max laminated veneers is easier than other veneer types.

After Laminate Tooth Veneer

What Should Be Considered After Laminated Tooth Veneer?

Basically, they comply exactly with the points to be considered in all veneer processes, but to repeat;

  • As a bad habit, our patients should not hold objects such as pencils, buckles, fishing line and pins that we dentists address in their mouths and should not try to open hard objects through their mouth and teeth.

  • When consuming large-seeded foods, attention should be paid to the kernels.

  • Attention should be paid to the consumption of hard cookies.

  • Foodstuffs such as sticky, gel-bon gum should be consumed as little as possible.

  • It should not be forgotten that the consumption of acidic foods will damage the patients' own teeth as well as damage the porcelain e-max teeth.

  • The clenching problems of our patients with clenching problems should be terminated with clenching plates prepared by dentists.

  • Routine oral care should be maintained very well and the recommendations of the physician should be followed.

  • Unless the dentist says otherwise, you should come to the dentist regularly every 6 months.

How Long Is the Life of Laminate Dental Veneers?

Just like in other dental procedures, it should not be forgotten that all restorations have a lifespan, but the most important factor in prolonging or shortening this life is the habits of use of us, the physicians, as well as our patients. Our patients, who are made in ideal conditions and pay attention to the rules that must be followed, can use their laminated teeth for 10-15 years, and maybe longer.

  • How Many Sessions Does Laminated Teeth Veneer Process Take?
The production of porcelain leaf teeth is completed with 2-3 sessions and a total period of 5-7 days after all oral care of the patients. In the first session, preparations are made, the teeth are made suitable for impression taking, and if necessary, temporary teeth are made after the impression taking process. At the second appointment, the compatibility of the gums and teeth is checked. In the next session or sessions, it is presented to the patient's taste and if our patients are satisfied with the procedure, the laminated teeth are permanently attached with special adhesives.
  • Does Laminate Tooth Veneer Fall Off After Adhering?
There are special resin-based adhesives produced specifically for porcelain laminated teeth, and since the porcelain laminates are bonded with these special adhesives, it is not very common for porcelain laminates to decimate. However, if the dentist did not comply with the bonding procedure, if saliva or water came to the tooth surface during bonding, then the adhesive does not provide a complete adhesion to the tooth surface. In this case, it causes the laminate to come off early. Again, a factor originating from the physician is the incomplete compatibility of the tooth and the laminate. If there is such a situation, the right thing should be to put the work done by the physician to the top and produce the laminated teeth again. However, if this is not treated properly, unfortunately, laminates may fall in the early period. In patients who do not provide good oral hygiene or consume acidic foods, or when foods that should not be consumed are consumed, there may be fractures or falls in the laminates. Individuals who grind their teeth should be treated with a dental plaque and botox.
  • What is the Difference Between Zircon Dental Veneer and Laminated Veneer?
The biggest difference between zirconia veneer and porcelain laminated leaf veneer is the amount of tooth hard tissue reduction applied to the tooth. In zirconia crowns, 0.9-2 mm of tooth hard tissue is removed from all surfaces of the tooth, while in porcelain laminated teeth, this ratio is possible with a maximum of 0.3-0.6 mm of hard tissue reduction from one surface of the tooth.
