What is Teeth Whitening?

A beautiful smile; smile starts with the sparkle in the eyes and our facial expressions. Teeth play an important role in our smile. Discolored and worn teeth are not very pleasant when smiling. For this reason, every individual wants a sparkling and white smile.

Even with regular oral care and careful oral hygiene, each individual has a unique tooth color and tooth colors turn yellow over the years. With this situation that has developed over the years, individuals become uncomfortable with their smiles and the color of their teeth when smiling, taking pictures or in a social environment.

With the teeth whitening process, our patients can have the sparkling and white smiles they desire, and this process is very economical compared to other smile aesthetic procedures.

Teeth whitening is a procedure that is done to make the teeth look brighter and whiter, and when done correctly, it never harms the teeth.

The hard tissue that gives the tooth its main color is the dentin tissue. Teeth whitening solutions are applied to the enamel surface, which is the outer layer of our semi-permeable teeth.

The aim here is to reach the dentin layer of the tooth and carry out the whitening process in a controlled manner from the enamel tissue, which is the semi-permeable layer. With this process, intra-dental and tooth surface stains and discolorations on the tooth surfaces are removed.

Why Are Teeth Stained?

We dentists deal with stains on teeth under two main headings.

1.External colouration;

The condition referred to as external stainingThese are the stains caused by the foods consumed by the people. The factors that most cause external staining are; use of cigarettes, tea, coffee and some food dyed products. The factors that cause external staining also affect the dentin layer, which gives the tooth its original color after a while, since the tooth enamel is semi-permeable.

2. Internal staining;

Internal staining may be due to certain drugs used in the womb or drugs used in childhood, as well as due to excess fluoride in drinking or daily used water in the place where they live in childhood.

How is Teeth Whitening (Bleaching) Performed?

In order to achieve a successful result in the teeth whitening process, the dentist and dentist must choose the right material together with the right patient selection. The first priority of our patients who will start the whitening process is to remove tartar and tartar with dental scaling, if their oral hygiene is not very good.

Teeth whitening is carried out by us dentists in four different ways. The first of these is  office type teeth whitening, the second is home bleaching and finally the third is combined teeth whitening.

Teeth Whitening with Laser in İzmir, Çiğli, Karşıyaka

Office Type Teeth Whitening

In office type teeth whitening, 38% hydrogen peroxide is used and while this agent is applied to the enamel layer, the gingival tissues should be protected. For this reason, gingival protective barriers are placed between the gingiva and the teeth. Correct placement of gingival barriers is a very important issue.

The gels used during the teeth whitening process are repeated 3 times with 15-20 minute sessions on the tooth surface and the process takes between 45 minutes and 1 hour.

During this process, a laser, which we can refer to as a light source, can be used or it can be done without using a laser. Teeth whitening with laser gives results a little faster than the system that does not use a light source.

However, there is no difference between the two applications. This procedure is repeated after 5-7 days and individuals now have the desired tooth color.

İzmir,Çiğli,Karşıyaka Home Type Teeth Whitening Procedure

Home Type Teeth Whitening

Home bleaching is a process that the individual applies for 6-8 hours with individually prepared whitening plates after oral hygiene is provided.

As long as the whitening plates stay in the mouth for 6-8 hours, individuals should not show any eating activity. For this reason, we commonly ask our patients to apply it in the evening after brushing their teeth.

In home bleaching; 10-16% carbamide peroxide is used. With this application, individuals achieve the desired tooth whiteness with 4-6 sessions of application every other day.

Thus, individuals achieve the desired whiteness within 8-12 days. Home bleaching gels given to patients by dentists and dental clinics should be kept in the refrigerator as much as possible.

The advantage of this system is that individuals will be able to carry out the bleaching process after a period of time they wish, since home type whitening gel and plaques will be available to individuals.

Single Teeth Whitening (Internal Teeth Whitening)

Teeth that have undergone root canal treatment lose their relative water over time and may appear grayer over time. Especially when root canal treatment is applied to the front teeth, this situation does not look aesthetically pleasing.

For this reason, in single-tooth applications, the old filling of the tooth is removed and a whitening gel is placed inside the tooth and the related single tooth is whitened. After waiting for a certain time after this procedure, the permanent tooth filling is done again.

  • How Many Sessions Does Laminated Teeth Veneer Process Take?
    The production of porcelain leaf teeth is completed with 2-3 sessions and a total period of 5-7 days after all oral care of the patients. In the first session, preparations are made, the teeth are made suitable for impression taking, and if necessary, temporary teeth are made after the impression taking process. At the second appointment, the compatibility of the gums and teeth is checked. In the next session or sessions, it is presented to the patient's taste and if our patients are satisfied with the procedure, the laminated teeth are permanently attached with special adhesives.
  • Does Laminate Tooth Veneer Fall Off After Adhering?
    There are special resin-based adhesives produced specifically for porcelain laminated teeth, and since the porcelain laminates are bonded with these special adhesives, it is not very common for porcelain laminates to decimate. However, if the dentist did not comply with the bonding procedure, if saliva or water came to the tooth surface during bonding, then the adhesive does not provide a complete adhesion to the tooth surface. In this case, it causes the laminate to come off early. Again, a factor originating from the physician is the incomplete compatibility of the tooth and the laminate. If there is such a situation, the right thing should be to put the work done by the physician to the top and produce the laminated teeth again. However, if this is not treated properly, unfortunately, laminates may fall in the early period. In patients who do not provide good oral hygiene or consume acidic foods, or when foods that should not be consumed are consumed, there may be fractures or falls in the laminates. Individuals who grind their teeth should be treated with a dental plaque and botox.
  • What is the Difference Between Zircon Dental Veneer and Laminated Veneer?
    The biggest difference between zirconia veneer and porcelain laminated leaf veneer is the amount of tooth hard tissue reduction applied to the tooth. In zirconia crowns, 0.9-2 mm of tooth hard tissue is removed from all surfaces of the tooth, while in porcelain laminated teeth, this ratio is possible with a maximum of 0.3-0.6 mm of hard tissue reduction from one surface of the tooth.
